Lomar’s corporate venture lab, lomar labs, is teaming up with Mythos AI, a leader in advanced autonomous systems, to pilot test groundbreaking artificial intelligence technologies for the shipping industry. This collaboration aims to enhance navigational safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability by combining Mythos AI’s expertise in autonomous navigation with lomar labs’ focus on maritime sustainability. Access to Lomar vessels will enable pilot testing of new technologies, paving the way for the next generation of shipping solutions.

Mythos AI’s flagship technology, the Archie unmanned survey vessel, is the world’s first vessel enabled by autonomy and an advanced pilot assist system (APAS). Designed for congested coastal and inland waterways, Archie ensures optimal performance in a rapidly evolving maritime landscape. With advanced sensors and real-time data acquisition systems, the vessel delivers unmatched autonomous navigation compliant with COLREGs, addressing critical challenges faced by the shipping industry.

Stylianos Papageorgiou, Managing Director at lomar labs, emphasized the importance of the collaboration in light of rapid developments in autonomous shipping. With the International Maritime Organization working towards finalizing the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code by 2025, the partnership with Mythos AI demonstrates a commitment to harnessing technology and innovation for cleaner, safer, and more efficient maritime futures. Autonomous technology has the potential to enhance bridge resource management, route optimization, fuel efficiency, safety, and cybersecurity in maritime operations.

Geoff Douglass, CEO of Mythos AI, highlighted the collaboration as a significant step towards advancing sustainable shipping solutions. By combining autonomous technology with deep maritime expertise, the partnership aims to drive efficiency, effectiveness, safety, and sustainability in operations at sea. Lomar CEO Nicholas Georgiou echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the vast potential of AI-driven technologies in the shipping industry and the importance of staying at the forefront of future innovations for sustainable operations in congested shipping lanes.
