Cozumel, Quintana Roo — On January 6, 2026, the Agencia de Proyectos e Innovación de Quintana Roo (APIQROO) announced the deployment of AI-powered surveillance cameras at Cozumel’s maritime terminals. This initiative, valued at four million pesos, aims to enhance passenger safety and improve operational efficiency in one of Mexico’s busiest cruise destinations.

The advanced surveillance system will monitor passenger traffic, identify suspicious activities, and aid in emergency situations. Officials noted that the technology is expected to help curb theft and smuggling, while providing real-time analytics for port authorities to make informed decisions.
