d’Amico International Shipping S.A. has announced that its subsidiary, d’Amico Tankers D.A.C., has signed a shipbuilding contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited for two new Medium Range 1 (MR1) product tankers, each valued at $43.2 million. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in April and July 2029. Additionally, d’Amico Tankers has the option to order one or two more ships within three months of the contract signing.

Currently, d’Amico’s fleet consists of 29 double-hulled product tankers with an average age of approximately 9.5 years. CEO Carlos di Mottola expressed enthusiasm about the new eco-design MR1 tankers, highlighting their efficiency. The new vessels are expected to consume about 20% less fuel daily while having an increased capacity of 8% compared to existing models.

This investment of $86.4 million is part of d’Amico’s fleet renewal strategy, following the sale of four older vessels in recent years. The new MR1s will be equipped for future fuel technologies and are positioned to enhance the company’s competitive edge in a market with limited new orders and an ageing fleet.
