The third quarter of this year has set new records for container traffic at major Danish ports. A total of 137,000 TEU containers arrived, while 122,000 TEU were shipped out. Most of this activity occurs at APM Terminals’ Aarhus facility, which has seen significant growth in 2025.

This surge in container volumes is attributed to expanded shipping routes. Maersk has enhanced its operations in Aarhus, making it a key stop for cargo to and from Poland, easing congestion in Northern Germany. Additionally, MSC has introduced a route from Asia, and CMA CGM has maintained a Nordic route with a stop in Aarhus since July.

Mikael Gutman, MD of APM Terminals Nordics, emphasized the importance of flexibility in adapting to the unpredictable global market and evolving shipping routes. He noted that despite record container arrivals, the flow in and out of the terminal has improved compared to the bottlenecks experienced in 2022 due to the pandemic.

Jacob K. Clasen, Deputy CEO of Danish Shipping Companies, highlighted Denmark’s status as a major shipping nation and a pivotal hub for container freight in the Nordic region, underscoring the vital role of the shipping industry in supporting the Danish economy.
