DNV has launched RuleAgent, an AI-driven tool aimed at assisting maritime professionals in efficiently navigating the organization’s extensive rules and standards. This innovative solution allows users to ask questions in natural language and receive precise answers sourced directly from DNV’s regulatory database, which encompasses over 30,000 pages of rules across various documents and editions.

RuleAgent functions by conducting real-time searches within DNV’s rules and standards database, pinpointing relevant rule sections, generating concise summaries, and providing direct links to official sources. This method ensures full traceability to authoritative content while allowing users to apply their professional judgment to the findings. When specific vessel information is available, the tool utilizes the ship type and class notations to refine results and offer tailored regulatory guidance.

Currently, RuleAgent covers a wide array of documents, including Rules for Ships, Rules for Offshore Units, Class Guidelines, and Statutory Interpretations, with plans for further expansion. It has undergone pilot testing with select customers to validate its performance and enhance the user experience before a wider release. Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, DNV’s Interim CEO Maritime, emphasized that RuleAgent reflects the organization’s commitment to responsible digitalization, enhancing access to technical knowledge amid a complex regulatory landscape.
