The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), aiming to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza, reported that its primary vessel, the “Family Boat,” was struck by a drone in Tunisian waters. This ship, flying the Portuguese flag, was carrying prominent activists, including Yasemin Acar, Greta Thunberg, and Thiago Avila. Fortunately, all six onboard are safe, although the boat sustained fire damage. An investigation is underway, and the GSF has released CCTV footage showing an explosion, though no direct evidence of a drone strike is visible.

In response to the incident, the GSF emphasized that such acts of aggression would not deter their mission to support Gaza’s residents. Meanwhile, the Tunisian National Guard stated that no drone was detected in the vicinity, suggesting the explosion may have resulted from life jackets catching fire.

The Family Boat is set to continue its journey to Gaza alongside other vessels, following a stop in Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia. The flotilla, comprising around 20 boats and representatives from 44 countries, aims to deliver humanitarian aid to a region facing famine. Previous attempts to reach Gaza by sea have been blocked by Israel.
