Everllence has successfully tested its 21/31 dual-fuel engine on ethanol at its facilities in Frederikshavn, Denmark, demonstrating reliable performance across all load points. This achievement builds on the company’s history of innovation, having introduced the first commercial two-stroke methanol-burning engine in 2016. In 2024, Everllence launched the 21/31DF-M, a small-bore, four-stroke methanol-burning GenSet, which is already in commercial use.

The successful operation of the 21/31 engine on ethanol allows Everllence to showcase the fuel’s viability. Rasmus Frimann Nielsen, Senior Manager of Four-Stroke Small-Bore Engineering, highlighted the engine’s potential with alternative fuels, noting that testing revealed an increased ethanol fuel share compared to methanol.

Growing market interest in ethanol prompted Everllence to make design adjustments, leading to a robust technical foundation for the engine. The recent tests have provided valuable insights, reinforcing the company’s belief that the 21/31 engine can operate on ethanol without complications. As data evaluation continues, Everllence is poised to advance its developments in alternative fuels.
