US-based electric boating media company Aqua Lectric has conducted research to map the global distribution of electric boat companies, with Europe emerging as the “epicentre” of the industry. The company has identified close to one hundred electric boat companies worldwide, utilizing data from various sources such as boat shows, online research, and word of mouth. It aims to inform consumers about clean boating alternatives in their region and foster industry partnerships to advance the sector.
Europe stands out as a leader in electric boating, with every coastal country in the continent hosting at least one company producing electric boats or propulsion systems. Aqua Lectric attributes Europe’s progress in the industry to political incentives and cultural preferences that prioritize sustainability. Founder Justin Dalinger notes that Europe’s focus on climate action has led to decarbonization goals across all sectors, including the marine industry, prompting bans on combustion engine boats in certain regions.
The electric boating industry faces challenges such as limited range, but advancements in battery technologies and hull designs are addressing these issues. Aqua Lectric highlights the success of electric boating in countries like the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, France, and Slovenia, singling out Austria as a standout performer. Austrian companies like Frauscher and Marian have been pioneers in building electric boats, showcasing the demand for clean, noise-free, and emission-free boating experiences. Aqua Lectric’s mapping initiative aims to provide valuable insights for investors and consumers, filling a gap in the industry’s information landscape.
