A fire broke out on the refrigerated cargo vessel Crystal Asia on 25 March near Busan, South Korea. The incident resulted in injuries to six crew members, with two in serious condition. The fire was extinguished approximately 8 km from the Port of Gamcheon in Busan. The vessel had a crew of 23, and two critically injured crew members were airlifted to a medical facility in Busan.
The remaining crew members were rescued and brought ashore by South Korean authorities using rescue boats. Reports from South Korean media suggest that the fire may have originated from the vessel’s engine. The Coast Guard has initiated a formal investigation to determine the extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire.
