A local fishing vessel named Leguga arrived at the scene to assist fishermen in distress near the burning Silver Dorado. All 21 crew members had evacuated the flaming vessel and entered the water. In response to the mayday distress calls, at least five other fishing vessels joined the rescue efforts.
At the time of their arrival, Leguga had successfully recovered 12 fishermen from the sea and their liferaft. Other vessels also participated in the rescue: Raka retrieved four fishermen, Maverick saved another four, and Vulcan managed to rescue one additional crew member.
Once all 21 fishermen were accounted for, they were transported to the NSRI rescue base at the Port of Port Elizabeth. Paramedics conducted medical assessments on each individual, confirming that they were uninjured and did not require further medical attention. The coordinated response from multiple fishing vessels highlights the solidarity and swift action taken by the local fishing community in times of crisis.
