The World Shipping Council (WSC) has released an update to its Dual-Fuel Fleet Dashboard, highlighting the liner shipping industry’s shift towards vessels powered by renewable and lower-emission fuels. As of December 2025, the fleet of dual-fuel container ships and vehicle carriers has grown to 400, a significant increase from 218 in 2024.
The order book for dual-fuel vessels continues to expand, with 726 ships currently on order. This growth persists despite numerous deliveries transitioning from the order book to active service. Notably, 74% of the vessels on order in the container ship and vehicle carrier categories are dual-fuel.
In total, there are now 1,126 dual-fuel container ships and vehicle carriers either delivered or on order, marking a 28% increase compared to the previous year. This surge represents over $150 billion in investments by the liner shipping industry in these environmentally friendly vessels.
