Two crew members were killed in an attack on the Liberian-flagged cargo ship, Eternity, in the Red Sea, confirmed a representative from Liberia at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The incident occurred after Yemen’s Houthi rebels resumed their assaults on international shipping in the area, which had seen a brief period of calm.
The Liberian official reported the attack during a statement in London, indicating that the situation has escalated and that the safety of seafarers is increasingly at risk. The Red Sea has recently become a hotspot for Houthi forces, who have targeted vessels they allege are linked to Western interests or the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
The IMO has expressed rising concern regarding the safety of commercial vessels in this critical maritime corridor. As of now, the names and nationalities of the deceased crew members have not been disclosed, highlighting the ongoing volatility in the region and the dangers faced by maritime operations.
