Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, announced on Wednesday that they were responsible for the sinking of a merchant vessel earlier this week, marking their second attack on Red Sea shipping in just 24 hours.

The Liberian-flagged bulk carrier, Eternity C, sustained severe damage during the assault that began on Monday and continued into Tuesday, ultimately leading to its sinking.

This incident follows the rebels’ previous attack, where they boarded and sank the Magic Seas, marking their first assault on merchant shipping this year. The renewed campaign against maritime targets raises concerns over security in the Red Sea region.
