Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced an escalation in their maritime operations, targeting any ships linked to companies that engage with Israeli ports, irrespective of their flag or ownership. This declaration, made by the group’s military spokesperson, signifies what they term the “fourth phase” of their campaign against Israel.

The spokesperson urged nations to pressure Israel to cease its aggression and lift the blockade on Gaza to prevent further escalation. The attacks, they claim, are framed as a “religious, moral, and humanitarian responsibility.”

Earlier this month, the Houthis initiated their first maritime campaign of the year, resulting in the sinking of two bulk carriers. This led to the deaths of at least four seafarers, injuries to others, and the kidnapping of crew members. The group’s aggressive stance reflects ongoing tensions in the region and highlights the complexities of maritime security linked to geopolitical conflicts.
