On September 4, 2025, Singapore and India formalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in New Delhi to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC). This agreement aims to enhance collaboration in maritime decarbonization and digitization, exchanged during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s official visit alongside leaders from both nations.

The MOU outlines a joint effort to develop infrastructure and technologies that facilitate zero-emission marine operations. It also promotes the digital exchange of information and collaborative research on innovative green technologies.

Officials noted that the corridor aligns with broader initiatives to diminish greenhouse gas emissions and propel digital advancements across the maritime sector. With India’s robust renewable energy capacity and manufacturing edge, it is positioned to provide alternative fuel sources. Meanwhile, Singapore’s status as a premier global port underscores its expertise in bunkering and a thriving maritime innovation landscape.

This partnership builds on a previous declaration in March 2025, aimed at identifying key stakeholders and projects related to digitization and decarbonization. Additionally, the initiative supports India’s ambitious maritime vision, as New Delhi invests heavily in domestic shipbuilding to rank among the world’s top five shipbuilding nations by 2047.
