Singapore and India are in discussions to sign a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish a green digital shipping corridor (GDSC) aimed at integrating India’s marine sector with the global maritime network. The signing is anticipated during Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s visit to Singapore next week for the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), scheduled from March 24 to 28.
Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), indicated that the LoI represents an initial step in their collaboration. While the specifics of the signing event have yet to be confirmed, MPA officials noted India’s interest in exporting green fuels, including biofuels, and sharing digital maritime expertise.
The GDSC aims to connect the Indian maritime industry with global trade channels via Singapore’s well-established maritime ecosystem, recognized as one of the world’s largest shipping hubs. During SMW, various maritime ministers from countries including Estonia, France, and Norway will also be present.
Additionally, the Indian delegation will showcase an ‘India Pavilion,’ featuring participation from prominent Indian ports, shipyards, and maritime organizations, strengthening bilateral ties in the maritime sector.
