Oslo, Norway, 4 June 2025 – Kongsberg Maritime has launched K-Sail, a new service designed to assist vessel owners in selecting and integrating wind-assist technology. As ship owners increasingly seek to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, K-Sail provides guidance on navigating the complexities of adopting these technologies, focusing on effective integration and collaboration with technology partners.

Henrik Alpo Sjöblom, Vice President of Business Concepts at Kongsberg Maritime, emphasizes that while various wind-assist technologies exist, they often function as mere add-ons. K-Sail aims to optimize their usage by integrating them more effectively into existing systems. The service encompasses five key areas: analysis of operational parameters, steering and propulsion optimization, power management, and voyage optimization using AI and real-time data.

Kongsberg Maritime’s customer Terntank is already collaborating with the K-Sail team on a pilot project. The first of five wind-assisted tankers ordered by Terntank is set to launch in 2025, serving as a reference point for K-Sail. Sjöblom anticipates that fuel savings could rise from an initial estimate of 9% to 15% through this innovative service.
