KR Signs MOU to Advance Maritime Digital Solutions in Korea

Korean Register (KR) has forged a partnership with four prominent maritime digital solution providers—Avikus, LAB021, Mapsea, and Marineworks—through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration aims to drive digital transformation within the maritime sector, responding to the increasing demand for advanced digital solutions that enhance ship operations and ensure compliance with tightening global decarbonization regulations.

The MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation, focusing on the development and implementation of maritime digital solutions and data platforms. The partners will engage in joint research and technology development, particularly in the areas of smart, autonomous, and low-carbon solutions. Additionally, they will exchange digital technologies to boost maritime safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency, while also coordinating efforts in business development and marketing.

Each participating company brings unique expertise to the initiative. Avikus specializes in AI-based autonomous navigation, LAB021 focuses on optimizing ship operations and ensuring environmental compliance, Mapsea offers maritime big data analytics and real-time navigation services, and Marineworks provides customized Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) and fleet management systems.

Yoon Sungho, Senior Executive Vice President of KR, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the digital transformation challenge in the maritime industry. He stated that KR is committed to working with leading Korean software companies to enhance ship safety and support clients globally as the industry adapts to digital and environmental changes.
