According to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform, October 2025 saw 30 new orders for alternative-fueled vessels. Among these, 26 were LNG-fueled vessels from the container segment, while four were methanol-fueled, with three in the tanker category.
In total, 222 orders for alternative-fueled vessels were recorded in the first ten months of 2025, representing about 52% of the orders from the same period in 2024. LNG vessels remain predominant, comprising 67% of all orders this year with 147 ships. Methanol vessels follow with 47 orders, while LPG carriers, ammonia-fueled vessels, and hydrogen vessels account for the remainder.
The container segment has emerged as a significant player, making up 65% of all new orders for alternative-fueled vessels in 2025. Additionally, October saw the addition of four LNG bunker vessels and two capable of supplying methanol and biofuel. While these are not included in the alternative-fueled statistics, ongoing investment in bunkering infrastructure is crucial for supporting the growth of the emerging alternative-fueled fleet.
