Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency is collaborating with U.S. and British authorities to investigate a significant cocaine shipment valued at $235 million, recently seized at Lagos’ Tincan Port. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that 1,000 kg of cocaine was found in an empty container over the weekend, following alerts from terminal operators to port security agencies.
Upon examination, the drugs were confirmed as cocaine and officially handed over to the NDLEA on Tuesday. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) have joined the investigation at the request of the Nigerian government.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa emphasized the importance of international collaboration, stating that the goal is to thoroughly investigate and apprehend the masterminds behind this substantial drug operation, no matter where they are located.
