The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has significantly enhanced its operational efficiency through a data upskilling program in collaboration with Multiverse, saving over 3,000 hours. This initiative has trained a cohort of 68 individuals, fostering a data-first culture aimed at improving maritime safety and environmental clean-up efforts. The program equips participants with skills in machine learning and statistical modeling, enabling them to identify vessel risks, environmental hazards, and various insights relevant to their operations.

By improving data flow into the MCA Data Platform, utilizing a Databricks environment, trainees are also promoting the use of data visualization tools like Power BI. This advancement has facilitated better access to actionable, real-time data for stakeholders, including coastguards and surveyors, enhancing their efficiency in daily tasks. The Multiverse training has not only increased the agency’s data tool adoption but has also laid a foundation for developing advanced AI capabilities in the future.

Since starting the training in 2022, nearly 75% of the agency’s personnel have become active users of data, with Power BI utilization skyrocketing from 43% to 94%. Digital apprentices now play a crucial role in data innovation, contributing to over half of the upcoming reports and applications. The number of super users has also surged seven-fold, reflecting the program’s success.

Multiverse specializes in AI and technology upskilling, providing personalized, hands-on learning experiences. Since 2016, it has trained over 20,000 apprentices across various industries, partnering with more than 1,500 companies to transform workforce training for all ages and career stages.
