Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, has delivered its first ammonia fuel supply system (AFSS) and ammonia gas abatement system (AGAS) to Japan Engine Corporation. These systems are designed for J-ENG’s inaugural ammonia-fueled marine engine model, the 7UEC50LSJA-HPSCR, marking a significant milestone for Mitsubishi Shipbuilding.
The AFSS ensures stable and safe ammonia fuel supply to the engine, while the AGAS manages excess ammonia produced during fuel transitions from ammonia to conventional fuel oil. Both systems are equipped for remote operation and automatic control, enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding emphasizes that the early introduction of these systems will facilitate onboard testing of the ammonia-fueled marine engine alongside its fuel supply and gas abatement systems. This initiative aims to expedite decarbonization in the maritime industry.
The company is committed to strengthening its business framework to address the rising demand for ammonia-fueled vessels, positioning itself as a key player in the transition to more sustainable maritime solutions.
