Intellian Technologies and Iridium Communications have unveiled the new Iridium Certus® GMDSS Systems, enhancing satellite communication for maritime safety. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), is essential for over 80,000 vessels globally to ensure compliance.
The C200M and C700M GMDSS systems are designed to provide global coverage, including polar regions, leveraging the capabilities of Iridium Certus. The C200M has already received the Marine Equipment Directive (MED) Wheelmark and UK Marine Equipment Regulations (MER) Red Ensign approval, while the upcoming C700 will be the only solution utilizing Iridium Certus 700, offering GMDSS, LRIT, and SSAS in one terminal.
Both systems include an antenna, a Below Deck Unit, and a Safety Display Terminal (SDT) with an intuitive interface for urgent situations, ensuring easy access to critical safety features. Alongside GMDSS functions, these terminals also deliver reliable voice and data services, enhancing overall communication resilience.
Intellian plans to expand its offerings with the C100M GMDSS System and is developing additional radios to meet the comprehensive needs of maritime safety communications.
