Kongsberg Discovery has launched the FS80 Trawl Sonar, a groundbreaking sonar system that revolutionizes pelagic trawling by combining net monitoring, intake profiling, and bottom detection in one compact unit. This innovative technology, first showcased at the Pacific Marine Expo, has undergone extensive sea trials, yielding impressive results. The FS80 aims to enhance operational efficiency for fishery operators of all sizes, making advanced sonar technology more accessible.

The FS80 builds on the legacy of the well-regarded FS70, offering improved performance and integration. It supports various telemetry cables, facilitating adoption among diverse users. Kongsberg Discovery is also set to introduce the FH80 HUB, a modular platform that allows customers to customize their sonar technology according to specific needs. This modularity enhances flexibility and efficiency, enabling integration with other systems like cameras and acoustic modems.

Mads Dahl, Kongsberg’s VP of Sales, emphasizes that the FS80 addresses customer pain points while providing reliable, multifrequency performance. This integrated system is designed to promote sustainable trawling practices, ensuring precise targeting and monitoring capabilities for enhanced commercial and environmental outcomes. Overall, the FS80 represents a significant step towards a new era of sustainable fishing technology.
