Med Marine has announced a significant milestone with the successful sea trials of the first of six next-generation RAmparts 2800 series tugboats, specifically designed for the Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports (OMMP). The trials, conducted on August 27th in the Black Sea, showcased the vessel’s exceptional performance, including impressive bollard pull, agility, and operational resilience, under the supervision of Med Marine’s engineering team and classification society surveyors.

This achievement follows the tug’s ceremonial launch at Med Marine’s Ereğli Shipyard on May 27th, marking the start of a six-vessel fleet project initiated by a contract signed in November 2023. With the completion of her sea trials, Med Marine looks forward to furthering its collaboration with OMMP through this high-performance harbor tug.

The 28-meter MED-A2800SD tug is designed to provide a minimum bollard pull of 60 tonnes and meets Class FIFI-E standards. Powered by two medium-speed diesel engines, it features an open aft deck capable of carrying two 10-foot containers, enhancing its operational flexibility for tasks such as towing, escorting, and firefighting.

As the first vessel in this series, the tug symbolizes the synergy between Med Marine’s shipbuilding expertise and OMMP’s vision for enhanced port efficiency and safety. The successful trials underscore the meticulous planning and commitment that characterize their partnership.
