NYK has recently invested in Oceanic Constellations Inc. (OC) through a new share allotment, aimed at supporting OC’s development of a mass-production framework for unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). This initiative is part of OC’s broader goal to enhance marine infrastructure, addressing societal challenges like ocean surveillance and disaster prevention, ultimately boosting the maritime industry’s competitiveness.

OC, an ocean-tech startup, is not only focused on USV technology but also excels in integrated environmental simulation technologies. These capabilities are vital for accurately reproducing marine conditions necessary for USV operations. Additionally, they can be utilized to assess the feasibility of an offshore recovery system for reusable rockets, a project NYK is involved in through the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Space Strategy Fund initiative.
