The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has introduced its Maritime Safety Plan (MSP) 2025 to enhance safety standards in domestic shipping operations. Aligned with the International Maritime Organization’s regulations on ferry safety, MSP 2025 aims to promote a strong safety culture, improve governance, and enhance occupational safety. The plan also includes the implementation of advanced navigation systems, radio communication, and casualty investigation practices to establish a robust safety framework.
Finalized during a workshop at Marina’s Central Office in Manila, the MSP 2025 consolidates industry-wide recommendations into a unified roadmap. Stakeholders gathered during the workshop to align efforts and develop actionable strategies for safety enhancement. Marina Administrator Sonia Malaluan emphasized the plan’s importance in fostering proactive safety measures, stating that it will serve as a structured roadmap reflecting the commitment to proactive safety management and sustainable maritime practices.
The MSP 2025 integrates insights from previous initiatives and addresses critical areas such as seaworthiness, stowage, and the obligation to provide assistance. It also emphasizes the adoption of new technologies and the implementation of practical action plans to address safety gaps. Marina’s collaboration with stakeholders ensures that MSP 2025 effectively tackles real-world challenges, reinforcing the commitment to a safer and more sustainable maritime industry.
