The Port Authority of New South Wales (NSW) collaborated with Fire and Rescue NSW to combat a fire at Spit Bridge Marina in Mosman, which resulted in the destruction and sinking of three vessels and significant damage to a fourth. The authority dispatched four vessels, including its firefighting vessel Girawaa, capable of pumping up to 16,000 liters of seawater per minute to control the blaze and safeguard nearby boats and marina infrastructure.

Girawaa, the Port Authority’s primary emergency response vessel, can deliver water equivalent to four large fire engines over distances of up to 90 meters. Chief Operating Officer John Finch noted that the authority also deployed absorbent and containment booms to manage pollution risks and protect the marine environment.

As the lead agency for shipboard fires and marine pollution, the Port Authority is closely coordinating with the marina operator and the Environment Protection Authority to monitor and mitigate potential environmental impacts. Finch confirmed that all pollution from the incident had been contained, with additional precautionary measures in place.

The marina operator will oversee the recovery and salvage of the affected vessels, working with owners and insurers for further clean-up efforts.
