Scienco/FAST, in collaboration with UniBallast, BV in Rotterdam, Netherlands, has introduced the InTankFITT® container, a portable version of its innovative filterless ballast water treatment system, InTank®. This solution is designed to tackle the increasing regulatory and operational challenges faced in ballast water management within the maritime industry. Representing a significant step forward in maritime technology, the containerized system offers a compact and portable design, housed in a shipping container for easy transportation and sharing between multiple ships or barges.
The InTankFITT® container ensures regulatory compliance with its automated handling, conducting treatment checks and recording Total Residual Oxidant (TRO) levels before discharge. This automated system generates easy-to-read treatment reports for crew members, port authorities, and customers, streamlining the compliance process. The filterless design also enhances operational efficiency by eliminating the need for complex and time-consuming filtering processes, reducing operational downtime and maintenance requirements.
Equipped with a port-based ballast water receiving vessel, InTank’s filterless and in-tank treatment simplifies the process of receiving water from discharging vessels. The container system is scalable and flexible, suitable for retrofits and temporary applications. With the ability to treat ballast water up to a capacity of 500-5,000 m³, the InTankFITT® container is adaptable to various water types and can be easily shipped worldwide in a standard 20-foot container. UniBallast offers this solution as both a product and service, providing ship owners and operators with a reliable and efficient option for achieving regulatory compliance with confidence and ease. The InTank container will be available for rental or purchase starting in 2025, catering to vessels up to 50,000 DWT.
