During a live demonstration aboard Scylla’s new vessel, MS Lumière, Shipping Technology and Retina achieved a groundbreaking autonomous Dock2Dock voyage, traveling from Hardinxveld-Giessendam to Gorinchem. This historic event showcased the integration of Retina’s M-Pilot maneuvering system with Shipping Technology’s ST BRAIN and Autonomous Lane Assist (ST Sailing), allowing the vessel to undock, navigate, and dock autonomously while the captain maintained oversight for safety.
The showcase highlighted the collaboration of advanced maritime technologies, featuring autonomous undocking via Retina’s M-Pilot, autonomous lane assistance during the main journey, and safe docking procedures. Throughout the voyage, the captain remained in control, ensuring a secure and efficient operation.
The Retina M-Pilot effectively managed the vessel’s thrusters and engines, working in tandem with Shipping Technology’s systems to navigate the optimal route. This integration allowed for precise control of rudder and pod movements, enhancing overall efficiency.
By continuously assessing factors like vessel load and engine performance, the pilot system optimizes steering responses. This innovative technology paves the way for “just-in-time sailing,” which could significantly reduce fuel consumption and promote sustainable maritime operations.
