Seaspan has officially opened a new 21,000 square foot Operations Center at its Vancouver Drydock, enhancing support for the West Coast marine industry. This state-of-the-art, two-storey facility centralizes administration, safety, and operations, aiming to boost efficiency for over 300 trades employees working in two shifts. The center features new offices, a lunchroom, and locker rooms, alongside significant civil and electrical upgrades to the site.
CEO John McCarthy emphasized that this investment not only reinforces Seaspan’s leadership in ship repair in the Pacific Northwest but also fosters local job creation. The new center and an additional third drydock represent crucial investments in infrastructure and workforce development, responding to the growing demand in the ship repair sector.
Paul Hebson, Vice President & General Manager, noted that the Operations Center marks a pivotal moment for the Vancouver Drydock team, providing a more efficient work environment. He underscored Seaspan’s integral role in British Columbia’s marine ecosystem, serving various vessels, including local ferries and emergency repairs.
This facility is part of a broader investment strategy to enhance Seaspan’s drydock capabilities, which is expected to create approximately 100 new jobs in the North Vancouver community.
