On December 11, Singapore authorities arrested Nigel Tang Wan Bao Nabil, a man linked to a large scam network in Asia, associated with alleged mastermind Chen Zhi. Tang’s arrest followed his return to Singapore, and he is currently out on bail. The police indicated that his detention is connected to suspected money laundering activities tied to Chen and related companies.

Chen, a Chinese-born Cambodian citizen, is accused by U.S. officials of leading a criminal organization involved in scams and forced labor. The operation, labeled “pig butchering,” reportedly defrauded victims globally while laundering billions of dollars. Following U.S. sanctions imposed in October, which included Tang among other Singaporeans, local investigations into Chen’s businesses intensified.

Tang, a captain of Chen’s superyacht NONNI II and an executive at Warpcapital Yacht Management, was heavily involved in operations supporting Chen’s enterprises. Authorities have seized assets exceeding S$150 million linked to Chen, including properties, vehicles, and bank accounts, amidst ongoing investigations into the group’s activities.

Additional developments include a court case where Chen’s affiliated companies sought funds from frozen accounts to cover employee salaries and legal fees. Prosecutors opposed this motion, citing suspected ties to criminal activities, and investigations into these entities are ongoing, as key figures remain uncooperative with law enforcement.
