The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) has recently established four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with key partners in the maritime sector, including Jurong Port, Oza Family Foundation, Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), and Swire Shipping. These partnerships aim to enhance opportunities for scholarships, internships, and industry exposure for Singaporean youth, reflecting SMF’s dedication to cultivating a skilled workforce for the maritime industry.
Under the three-year MOU with Jurong Port, starting in July 2025, four MaritimeONE scholarships and one internship will be awarded annually to help tertiary students gain industry insights and skills at one of the world’s leading multipurpose ports. Similarly, the collaboration with the Oza Family Foundation will provide one scholarship each year from 2025 to 2027, emphasizing the importance of private philanthropy in fostering talent in maritime studies.
The SSA will contribute three to four scholarships annually from 2025 to 2027, leveraging its industry network to promote diverse opportunities in shipping. Additionally, the partnership with Swire Shipping will offer one scholarship and two internships annually, aiming to connect students with global maritime perspectives.
These MOUs are part of SMF’s broader strategy to build a sustainable talent pipeline in the maritime sector, lowering barriers for entry and equipping youth with vital skills for a rapidly evolving industry. Mr. Hor Weng Yew, Chairman of SMF, expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their commitment to talent development, highlighting the collective effort to ensure the resilience and innovation of Maritime Singapore.
