Axpo has successfully conducted Spain’s inaugural ship-to-ship bio-LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Algeciras, delivering over 4,000 m³ of ISCC-certified bio-LNG to the CMA CGM FORT BOURBON. This achievement builds on Axpo’s recent LNG bunkering efforts in key ports such as Málaga and Sines.

The bio-LNG was sourced through virtual liquefaction at Enagás’ regasification plant in Cartagena, which has been ISCC EU certified since July 2024. This certification ensures that the facility adheres to the European Commission’s environmental and sustainability criteria. Cartagena is a vital LNG hub in the Mediterranean, crucial for providing next-generation marine fuels and supporting European decarbonization initiatives.

Daniele Corti, Head of Small Scale LNG at Axpo, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable LNG solutions in the Iberian market, aiming to meet the rising demand for cleaner marine fuels. He noted that expanding their bio-LNG portfolio is essential for helping clients achieve ambitious emissions targets. A sustainability certificate for this delivery was issued by Enagás at the start of August 2025.
