Stena Bulk, a leading tanker shipping company, has officially reflagged its Suezmax tanker, Stena Surprise, under the Swedish flag, marking a significant milestone for Swedish shipping. The reflagging ceremony took place in Nynäshamn, Sweden, with Andreas Carlson, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, present to witness the hoisting of the Swedish flag.

Built in 2012, Stena Surprise joins the ranks of other Suezmax tankers like Stena Sunrise and Stena Suede that have been reflagged to the Swedish Shipping Register. This move is part of Stena Bulk’s broader strategy to enhance its fleet’s presence under the Swedish flag.

The decision to reflag these vessels underscores the importance of strengthening Sweden’s global shipping footprint and reinforces the nation’s position in international maritime trade. It also aims to support a competitive and sustainable Swedish fleet.

Notably, Stena Surprise and its counterparts are the first Suezmax-class vessels to be flagged in Sweden, representing a rare addition of large crude carriers to the country’s shipping register.
