Russia’s Black Sea port of Taman, which processes oil products, grain, and coal, was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack, according to Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev. The attack injured two individuals and caused significant damage to an oil storage tank, a warehouse, and terminal facilities in Volna village, where the port is located.
Kondratyev reported that over 100 personnel were deployed to combat several fires ignited by the attack. Additionally, separate strikes on the resort city of Sochi and the nearby village of Yurovka resulted in minor damage, he noted.
Ukraine’s military confirmed the strike on the port complex, marking a resumption of attacks on Russian energy infrastructure after a U.S.-brokered pause expired. This escalation comes as Russia has consistently targeted Ukraine’s energy and utility systems, leaving many without heating and electricity during a harsh winter.
In 2022, Taman port was a significant hub, facilitating the shipment of approximately 4.16 million metric tons of oil products.
