President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to provide assistance to families of Filipino seafarers impacted by the sinking of the MV Eternity C. The vessel, flagged in Liberia, was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea on July 7, carrying 22 crew members, 21 of whom are Filipinos. Five crew members have been rescued.

During a briefing, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac emphasized the President’s commitment to support the affected families, stating, “Take care of the families,” was the top directive. The rescued seafarers are currently in an undisclosed location, while the identities of three reported fatalities are being verified by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

Additionally, Cacdac announced that the manning agency’s license has been suspended pending further investigation. The DMW continues to coordinate efforts to ensure the well-being of the seafarers’ families amid this tragic incident.
