The Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) has inaugurated the Maritime Experiential Learning Centre, the first MASTER (Maritime Advancement in Simulation Technology & R&D Services) Centre in the Asia Pacific, endorsed by Wärtsilä. This facility features cloud-enabled simulators that replicate real-world vessel operations.
The launch was officiated by International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez during his visit to Malaysia. The centre incorporates advanced technologies such as high-definition visuals, virtual reality, remote training capabilities, and automated grading tools. These innovations aim to train a new generation of seafarers in crucial areas like decarbonisation, digitalisation, and smart navigation.
The event was part of Malaysia Maritime Week 2025, where Dominguez engaged with over 250 students in a session titled “Malaysia Maritime NextGen,” aimed at fostering innovation in the country’s maritime education sector. This initiative underscores Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing maritime training and preparing future-ready seafarers.
