Eco-anxiety is increasingly affecting younger seafarers as they confront the stark realities of climate change. With constant access to social media, today’s crews witness environmental crises unfold in real time, making issues like extreme weather and global warming immediate personal concerns. According to UNICEF, nearly 60% of young people express significant worry about environmental issues, which often manifests as eco-anxiety among crew members, particularly in multinational teams from regions severely impacted by climate change.

In response to this growing concern, COLUMBIA blue, a global marine services platform, is proactively addressing mental health challenges. The company has implemented dedicated mental health counseling across its fleets, supported by specialists from the OneCare Group wellness platform, to help seafarers manage eco-anxiety. This initiative reflects a commitment to the well-being of its crew members.

Seafarers are encouraged to contribute ideas for environmental awareness campaigns, fostering a collaborative approach to sustainability.
