The United Seamen’s Service honored Crowley mariners at the 2025 Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Awards, a prestigious event celebrating significant maritime achievements and recognizing American seafarers for their bravery and commitment to safety.
The crew of the tanker Stena Immaculate received the AOTOS Special Recognition Plaque for their heroic actions following a collision with a foreign cargo ship in the North Sea in March. Despite sustaining damage and a fire, the crew effectively contained the blaze, safeguarded thousands of gallons of jet fuel, and ensured the safety of all 23 crew members, preventing further disaster. At the time, Stena Immaculate was managed by Crowley through a joint venture with Stena Bulk USA.
Additionally, the crew of Crowley’s vessel El Coquí was awarded the AOTOS Mariner’s Plaque for Heroism for rescuing four U.S. boaters after their sailing vessel sank in the Atlantic Ocean. Responding to a U.S. Coast Guard request, El Coquí diverted from its route, working with the Coast Guard and the vessel Bonanza to locate and transport the stranded boaters to safety.
For over 50 years, the AOTOS Awards have recognized individuals and organizations that have advanced the maritime sector while promoting the welfare of American seafarers.
