Cyprus has successfully renewed its collective agreement for seafarers aboard Cyprus-flagged vessels. This new three-year deal, which aligns local maritime labor standards with international norms, was signed this week by the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), representing employers, along with the maritime unions Sek and Peo. The agreement is also backed by the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEV).

Effective from January 1, 2026, until December 31, 2028, the renewed agreement adheres to international collective bargaining frameworks and upholds essential labor standards. As part of this renewal, wage scales and compensation structures have been updated to reflect the International Labour Organisation (ILO) minimum wage for able seafarers, including provisions for loss of life or disability.

The CSC emphasized that the successful negotiation of this agreement highlights the strong tradition of collaboration and stable industrial relations within Cyprus’s maritime sector. Ongoing dialogue among stakeholders is crucial for fostering a sustainable working environment for seafarers, while also enhancing the competitiveness of the Cypriot flag and the overall contribution of the shipping sector to the national economy.
