Fiji and UAE Sign MOU to Recognize Seafarer Certificates

The Fijian Government has formalized a significant partnership with the United Arab Emirates by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates of competency. This agreement, finalized in Dubai on January 14, 2026, represents a pivotal advancement for Fiji’s maritime sector.

Under this MOU, qualified Fijian seafarers will gain access to employment opportunities on UAE-flagged vessels and throughout the broader Gulf region. This recognition is anchored in Fiji’s commitment to the International Maritime Organization’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Convention, ensuring that Fijian qualifications align with global standards.
