The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that the nine Filipino crew members of the MV Eternity C, currently held by Houthi rebels, are in good condition and maintaining contact with their families. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed that the Houthis have permitted the seafarers to make calls, expressing hope for their continued communication and safe release.

Cacdac emphasized that the DMW is collaborating with the Department of Foreign Affairs and foreign governments to monitor the welfare of the captives and facilitate their release. He noted that supporting the families of the seafarers is a top priority, as directed by the President. The DMW has been actively engaging with the families, providing updates and conducting home visits to offer assistance during this challenging time.

On Monday, the Houthis released footage claiming the crew members were “rescued” following an attack on the ship in early July. It was later confirmed that nine Filipino seafarers were among those captured. The Department of Foreign Affairs announced its intention to seek help from “friendly countries” to ensure the safe return of the crew.
