A violent incident unfolded on a Panama-flagged tanker in Greece on Monday afternoon, involving a 27-year-old Egyptian crew member who stabbed the captain and two other colleagues. The attack occurred in the shipbuilding and repair area of Perama, leaving the crew in shock as the assailant used two knives against the 40-year-old captain and two crew members, aged 32 and 20, who held seaman and cleaner roles, respectively.
Following the attack, the Hellenic Coast Guard reported that the suspect was apprehended by officials from the Perama Port Authority. He faces charges under Article 309 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to “dangerous bodily harm.”
The injured crew members, all Egyptian nationals, were initially transported to Tzaneio General Hospital for treatment before being transferred to a private clinic. Their conditions remain undisclosed as investigations continue.
A preliminary inquiry into the incident is underway, being conducted by the D’ Port Department of Perama under the Central Port Authority of Piraeus. This investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the violent act and ensure accountability.
