IMO Calls for Seafarer Safety After Tragic Odessa Attack

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic loss of four seafarers in an attack in Odessa on March 11. He extended his thoughts and condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, as well as those who were injured. Dominguez emphasized the crucial role of seafarers in maintaining the global supply chain of essential goods and stressed that they should never be targeted in conflicts beyond their control.

He called for a collective commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of seafarers, urging all parties involved to collaborate in preventing further acts of violence against innocent seafarers and shipping. Dominguez emphasized the importance of safeguarding international shipping from becoming a casualty in broader geopolitical conflicts.
