The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, expressed his profound concern following a deadly attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on March 6, 2026. This tragic incident resulted in the loss of at least four seafarers’ lives and left three others severely injured. Dominguez extended his condolences to the families and loved ones affected, acknowledging the significant grief within the global maritime community.

He highlighted the dire situation faced by approximately 20,000 seafarers stranded in the Persian Gulf, who are enduring heightened risks and immense mental strain. Dominguez emphasized that this state of affairs is both unacceptable and unsustainable.
