DESGAGNÉS has announced the successful return of three trainees from the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ), who were stranded aboard the vessels N/M Rosaire A. Desgagnés and N/M Miena Desgagnés in the Persian Gulf since February 28. Due to ongoing security uncertainties affecting the vessels’ departure through the Strait of Hormuz, DESGAGNÉS, in coordination with IMQ, initiated a repatriation plan for the trainees.
To facilitate their safe return, DESGAGNÉS collaborated with local maritime agents and Saudi authorities. The trainees were first flown from Saudi Arabia to Europe before continuing their journey to Canada. Throughout this period, IMQ provided essential support services, including personalized psychosocial assistance for the trainees and their families, addressing their specific needs amid the conflict in the Middle East.
The trainees participated in a sea training program essential for obtaining their college diploma (DEC) in Navigation and a deck officer’s certificate from Transport Canada, both critical for advancing their maritime careers. DESGAGNÉS expressed gratitude to the crews of the vessels, local maritime agents, and Saudi authorities for their cooperation in ensuring the trainees’ safe repatriation.
To respect their privacy, the trainees and their families have chosen to remain anonymous and will not be available for interviews. DESGAGNÉS is pleased with the resolution of this situation and commends the trainees for their resilience during this challenging time.
