The LifeFlight rescue helicopter team from the Sunshine Coast has successfully rescued two injured seafarers from bulk carriers. On Friday, a man in his 40s, suffering from a severe hand injury, was winched from a ship located 13 nautical miles off Mooloolaba. This operation followed a similar mission two days prior, where a man in his 50s was lifted from a vessel 10 nautical miles off Point Arkwright after sustaining a head injury.
In both incidents, the injured men received immediate care from LifeFlight medical personnel and Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics. The man with the hand injury was stabilized before being transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Similarly, the man with the head injury was treated and then flown to the LifeFlight base before being transferred to the hospital by ambulance, both in stable conditions.
These rescues highlight the critical role of emergency services in maritime incidents, ensuring swift medical attention for those in need.
