The Liberian Registry is set to roll out electronic seafarer documents, reinforcing its dedication to digital advancement and regulatory compliance. This initiative aims to enhance digital verification for shipowners, instilling greater confidence in the authenticity of crew members’ documentation. By implementing QR-coded, digitally verifiable documents, the Registry seeks to minimize the risks of fraudulent credentials and streamline inspection processes for Port State Control authorities.
To facilitate these advancements, the Registry will migrate its Seafarer Electronic Application System (SEA System) to a new ecosystem within the Seafarer Portal. A key component of this transition is the introduction of Crew360, a solution that enhances the vetting and verification process for seafarer applications. Following the rollout, all issued seafarer documents will feature QR codes, including Certificates of Receipt of Application (CRAs), while electronic certificates will be provided for each application.
In conjunction with these updates, the Registry will launch the SEA360 mobile application, enabling seafarers on Liberian-flagged vessels to access their documentation securely from their mobile devices. This app will provide digital equivalents of hard-copy documents, complete with QR codes for verification, facilitating interactions with Port State Control officials and other relevant parties.
Alfonso Castillero, CEO of the Liberian Registry, emphasized that through innovation and connectivity, the organization is committed to enhancing the visibility, security, and confidence of seafarers regarding their credentials. This initiative aligns with similar efforts by the Bahamas Maritime Authority, which recently partnered with IDsure to issue digital Seafarer Record Books and Competency Certificates.
