In honor of this year’s International Day for Women in Maritime, Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC) is showcasing the stories of female seafarers through an immersive exhibition titled “Chart her course.” Developed with Chariot Agency, this interactive experience aims to challenge stereotypes and expand opportunities for women in a predominantly male industry.
Despite global initiatives, women represent only 2% of the maritime workforce. Recognizing that perceptions of careers often start young and are influenced by emotions, “Chart her course” seeks to connect and inspire through the experiences of three Malaysian women: a captain, a fourth engineer, and a deck cadet, all graduates of ALAM, Malaysia’s leading maritime academy.
The exhibition employs cutting-edge technology, including interactive elements and spatial audio, to reflect the challenges and resilience required for women in maritime careers. Open to the public from May 16 to 18 at Muzium Telekom in Kuala Lumpur, admission is free, with pre-registration recommended for access.
Creative director Christyna Fong emphasized the aim to bridge the emotional gap between everyday life and the maritime world through storytelling and technology. Last year, MISC also celebrated female seafarers with a campaign that transformed personal testimonials into art.
